For an aam aadmi like us - technological innovations are not evident unless they make a direct impact in our lives or we see it impact someone around us.
One such innovation happening is Google Chrome OS, an operating system similar to Windows. Google has carefully planned the climb to release Google OS. First, it was the Desktop manager, which was designed to wean away users to Google products and one which worked right on Windows desktop and is a replacement to Windows Explorer. To know what it is click here Google Desktop .
The next attempt was the Google Chrome browser. Most of us will know about Internet Explorer and FireFox browsers. Chrome Browser was released as a competitor to these two browsers and holds a modest market share. The unique characteristic of this browser is its lean size and hence, fast loading. To know what is it see Google Chrome . Download and check it out. It is fast.
Google Chrome OS is the next logical step to Google Chrome Browser. Why ? From the user point of view, you get the same interface as you had in the browser, to use the Google Chrome OS. For Google it is a well planned strike to get a foothold in the Laptops OS which are used by people on the move and who access the internet for all their work. We have to note the word all work with emphasis. People who use Google Chrome, will have to write letters using an online Word Processor - such as Word Online, Google Docs, or prepare a presentation using an online presentation software. Many of us may not realize it. We all use online software whenever, we log on to the internet. We email using online email software such as Gmail or Yahoo or Hotmail, and read news using software such as Yahoo or BBC. So, we are already using net based software (also called Cloud Computing) for select services.
Will people move away from the desktop to the net?
Using a Laptop with Chrome OS will mean, we cannot store our secret docs, pics, and other info, on our machine. Everything is stored on the Cloud (meaning servers) just like our emails are stored on email servers.
Are we ready for this? If yes, Chrome is the way to go.

Did anyone think of a similar thing before? Certainly, some 10 yrs ago, Novell, Oracle, and gang, unable to beat MS, thought of a PC which did not require a Windows OS called NetPc. While the concept was good, it did not have an OS of any standing and no Google to support its launch marketing.
